JOINT PARLIAMENTARY COMMITTEE ON FOREIGN AFFAIRS AND FOREIGN TRADE

Terms of reference

2.

Receive reports and recommendation from the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade and other relevant authorities.

3.

Send for persons, papers and records.

4.

Appoint specialists and experts as advisors to the Committee as deemed necessary.

5.

Meet concurrently with other departmental committees to exchange information and views.

6.

Receive oral and written submissions from members of the general public concerning matters relating to foreign affairs and foreign trade.

7.

Examine bills/legislation pertinent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade and any other matters referred to it.

8.

Report recommendations and findings and submit such reports and findings to the Honourable the House of Assembly from time to time as may be considered appropriate.

9.

Convene at least once every quarter.

10.

Perform any other functions and tasks that may be referred to the Committee.

Senator the Hon. E. R. Griffith: To move the passing of a Resolution to approve the compulsory acquisition by the Crown of parcels of land situate at Queen Street, Speightstown in the parish of St. Peter in this Island for the provision of an access to the beach.

Senator the Hon. E. R. Griffith:  To move the passing of a Resolution to approve the Guarantee by the Minister responsible for Finance of the payment of the principal and interest in respect of a loan $19.0 million in the currency of the United States of America by the Barbados Investment and Development Corporation from RBTT Merchant Bank Ltd. for the purpose of upgrading the quality of the Corporation’s buildings and the retirement of debt.

Senator the Hon. E. R. Griffith: To move the passing of a Resolution to rescind the  Resolution passed by the House of Assembly on the11th day of August, 2006 and  in the Senate on the 16th day of August, 2006 approving the guarantee by the  Government of a loan of $ 22 000 000 by the Transport Board from RBTT Merchant  Bank Ltd.

Griffith:  To move the passing of a Resolution to approve the Guarantee by the Government of the principal and interest necessary for the redemption of the bond issue by the Transport Board from RBTT Merchant Bank Ltd of the sum of $ 11 million in the currency of the United States of America for the purpose of purchasing 70 new buses

QUESTIONS

*1.

Senator Sir John Stanley Goddard, K.A.: To ask the Leader of the Senate:

Is the Minister aware that Section 19 (1) of the Caribbean Broadcasting Act. Cap 276 mandates the Corporation to transmit to the Minister as soon as practicable after the end of each financial year an annual report of the Corporation?

 

 

2.

Is the Minister aware that subsection (2) of that said Act mandates the Minister to lay a copy of such report together with the Annual Statement of Accounts on the Tables of both Houses?

 

 

3.

Will the Minister therefore explain why the Annual Reports of the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation for the years 1999, 2000 and 2001 were laid in the Senate only on 16th December, 2005?

 

 

4.

Can the Minister give an undertaking to this House as to when the reports for 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005 will be laid in this Honourable House?
